ESU 31296
Steam locomotive 98 040 the SNCB, epoch III

The T16.1 is ESU's first steam locomotive.
The finely detailed model is mostly made of metal and has a large number of separately applied parts. It goes without saying that the prototypical differences are taken into account. The wheels with thin spokes are also eye-catching.
The model is shown with largely worn wheel tires, which is why the wheel spiders can have prototypical dimensions. This leaves enough space to design the wheel flanges in such a way that safe operation on two- and three-wire tracks is possible. In order to minimize compromises on the chassis, we only guarantee operation on radii from 420 mm.
Since the locomotives were used in local freight train and shunting service, the models have a shunting coupling in the standard shaft on both sides. Matching bracket couplings with non-magnetic brackets are included with the locomotive.
Of course, the model emits smoke from the chimney, controlled by wheel sensors and synchronously with the LokSound. Of course, when designing the sounds, we listened very closely to the original. For example, when driving downhill, you can switch the acoustics to the counter-pressure brake with a function button on the replica of the Riggenbach counter-pressure brake. The acoustics of the various air and feed pumps were also different.
Maneuvering is done prototypically under the lights of the lower right lantern on both sides.
In the Prussian variant, the third headlight can be switched on to show the headlight Zg 7 (oncoming train signal). For the first time in mass production, the lanterns are free-standing, where prototypical. When coal is acoustically shoveled into the firebox, the firebox lighting also glows.
