INFORMATION ABOUT THE MODEL:
Due to the rolling process during production, wound sheet steel rolls (coils) are a moisture-sensitive product. So that these coils can be transported to the processing industry without corrosion damage, the vehicle industry developed a special design flat car in the 1970s with three slidable hoods, the Shis 708, from 1987 Shimmns 708. The hoods can be moved as needed to make it easy to load coils and release the five loading troughs embedded in the vehicle frame. The German Federal Railway ordered over 2,500 Shis / Shimmns 708 in two large batches. However, due to further orders from other state railways and rental companies, the number of vehicles of this type actually built is significantly larger. Since the hoods became more maintenance-intensive with increasing age, DB AG had the hoods of 1,000 cars replaced with sliding tarpaulins from 2002 onwards and redesignated these vehicles as Shimmns-ttu 772. However, private sellers still use vehicles in their original condition.
